Cows from the Doddington Dairy have grazed contentedly here on the farm for over 50 years. North Doddington is now one of the few dairy farms left in Northumberland.

In the late 1990’s Neill and Jackie Maxwell realised the difficulties that faced dairy farmers and decided that they wanted to be in control of their own destiny.  With the high quality milk available they started to experiment with ice cream recipes and, from their research, realised that not only could they produce superb ice cream but that there was no other company producing hand made farm ice cream between Yorkshire and Aberdeenshire.  Thus Doddington Dairy Ice Cream was launched in the summer of 2000.

Despite the huge numbers of people choosing to leave agriculture for pastures new, Doddington is still very much a family farm, with the entire family being involved on the farm in some way.

Our luxury farm made ice creams are produced from the fresh whole milk of the Doddington cows.  This is mixed with simple ingredients of the finest quality (sourced locally where possible) to produce rich, creamy ice creams with distinctive and real flavours.  

Our aim is to produce quality products from only the best of ingredients.

The Maxwells have been farming at North Doddington for more than 50 years after moving from the West of Scotland.

Situated in the beautiful Glendale Valley, overlooked by the Cheviot Hills, North Doddington is a traditional Northumbrian mixed farm. In the cool, clean air of the valley the dairy cows are able to happily graze and produce the fresh whole milk for the cheeses and ice creams of the Doddington Dairy. A sheep flock and some cereal enterprises complement the dairy farm.

This ensures jobs for 5 people on the farm and 8 full time and 4 part time in the Doddington Dairy ice cream and cheese enterprises.
